Global warming required in grade schools?

THURSDAY 2-14-08 Not only will the words “mom” and “dad” eventually be expunged from California’s school textbooks, get a load of senate bill 208. It was authored by state senator Joe Samitian of Palo Alto. It requires textbooks to teach global warming. It passed the Senate last Wednesday and will require climate change to be among the topics included in the state’s environmental science curriculum . The bill now goes to the Assembly for passage.

It would be wise for members of the Assembly to recall the words of scientist Dr. Roy Spencer who said “In 2008, it is crucially important that the public stay alert for environmental extremists presenting, and media and politicians blindly repeating, natural events as unnatural. Temperature is always rising and falling, glaciers advance and retreat, drought and floods occur over and over. Climate is changing all the time and much more quickly than Darwinian-driven western science allows.”

If we’re not careful, the state of California could end up being the laughing stock of the world. You see, researchers at the Max Planck Institute for Solar Research in Germany report the sun has been burning more brightly over the last sixty years, accounting for the 1 degree increase in Earth’s temperature over the last 100 years.

Timothy Patterson, professor of geology and director of the Ottawa-Carleton Geoscience Center at Carleton University says that CO2 variations show little correlation with our planet’s climate on long, medium and even short time scales. He says ” I, and the first-class scientists I work with are consistently finding excellent correlations between the regular fluctuations of the sun and earthly climate. This is not surprising.”

Kinda’ makes one wonder what’ll happen to all those Senate Bill 908 textbooks that’ll say CO2 emissions are causing global warming. After all, we were taught in school that CO2 is a colorless, odorless, benign gas, essential for plant photosynthesis. Now, we’re gonna’ teach kids that it’s a toxic pollutant?
