Not By Fire – But By Ice

While hosting a radio talk show during the decade of the 90;s, I interviewed an author who had written a book entitled “Not By Fire, But By Ice.  I wish I could remember his name.  The book might still be available on Amazon.

The author was adamant that an ice age was coming.  At the time, the world was hearing all about global warmng and how we were all about to die fromthe heat, or die by drowning as the glaciers melted.  Yet here was an author who wrote words to the effect “hold on…wait a minute…you have it all wrong.  We’re gonna’ freeze to death.”

It was an amazing interview that went well beyond the usual  thirty minutes I allowed for guests.  That author got a full hour of the three-hour program.  I’ve never forgotten that interview because the topic was so unusual.  An impending ice age at the same time the world was being warned about global warming.

So, here we are as 2010 comes to a close and we’re being told 2010 was the hottest year on record.  That alone is an outright lie, but probably enough to give media reporters a story that’ll help sell newspapers.  Imagine my surprise while reading the Sunday Sun of London.  Let me just share with you this one paragraph:

First the good news.  These bitter winters aren’t going to last forever.  The bad news is that they will go on for the next thirty years as we have entered a mini ice age.  So says author Gavin Cooke in his book “Frozen Britain’.  He began writing it in 2008 and it was published last year when experts were scratching their heads at the cause of the bitter winter of 2009/10 which brought England to a standstll.”

So, while the experts were scratching their head, the global warming zealots decided they’d better change the words.  Now they call it “climate change.”  How convenient is that?  The climate has changed since the beginning of time.  Oh, there are a few ‘Johnny-come-latelytypes that still subscribe to the term “global warming” but it’s a pretty hard theory to sell when it’s ten below zero.

Searching newspapes around the globe today, here are a few headlines I’ve underlined for the purpose of this article:

London Daily Mail:  Christmas Threatened as Big Freeze Death Toll Rises.

Florida Sun Sentinel:  Fort Lauderdale Breaks 169 year old cold record.

AccuWeather:  Big Upcoming Snow Dump For East Coast.

     Deep Freeze Threatens Florida Strawberries.

Bitter Cold Blast All the Way To Florida

More Flooding, Crop Damage as Heavy Rains Again Hit Australia.

Now the question is, has any of this caused any of the global warming alarmists to change their views?  Absolutely!  According to the London Sun Sentinel, the names include international climatologist Mike Lockwood of Reading.  In 2007 he said the cyclical change in the sun’s energy was NOT responsible for climate change.  In April this year, writing in New Scientist magazine, he did a U-turn and said it was.

After a study, he and hs team concluded that recent cold British winters have coincided neatly with the biggest fall off in the sun’s activity for a century, contradicting the accepted theory that carbon dioxide emissions and other greenhouse gases are likely to warm our climate.

Will this new information put a stop to the global warming hoax?  Nope!  Why not?  There’s no money to be made by such an admission.

Isn’t it reassuring to hear our elected officials swear (on the Bible) to protect and defend this country against all enemies, foreign and domestic?  Isn’t it rather disconcerting to discover they’ve lied through their teeth?

When Islamic terrorist-operatives crashed two passenger jets into the World Trade Center, another into the Pentagon, while a fourth (destined for the White House) crashed into a field in Pennsylvania,  that act on September 11th was an act of war against the United states by a group (an army) known as al-Qaida.

It wasn’t the first attack by al-Qaida against this country and it’s interests, when you consider the USS Cole incident, and the bombings of U.S. Embassies around the world.  Until September 11th however, only lip-service was used as a weapon against terrorists by the Clinton administration.  “We will seek out and bring the perpetrators to justice”…he said.  All talk, no action…save for a few cruise missles fired here and there without effect.

But in the aftermath of September 11th, something different happened.  We had a new president who took seriously his oath of office and the vow to protect and defend this country against all enemies, foreign and domestic.  In the beginning, most all members of Conress agreed to take the fight to the enemy, and not stop until they were all killed or captured.  In war, that is as it should be.

As General Douglas Macarthu once pointed out, “In war, the only alternative is victory.”  General George Patton said “You don’t win wars by dying for your country.  You win wars by making the other SOB die for HIS country.”   Too bad we don’t have leaders like that anymore.  Today, we have members of Congress who seem to have forgotten their oath of offie to PROTECT and DEFEND this country against ALL ENEMIES, foreign and domestic.

The House Intelligence Committee has asked the CIA to provide documents about the now-canceled program to kill al-Qaida leaders.  The House move is seen as a precursor to what will likely become a full-blown investigation into the secret operation;  their target?  Former President George Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney!  Two of this country’s elected officials who took their oaths of office seriously, and sat out to do exactly what their oaths of office demanded.

I used to wonder why so many gullible people have jumped on the global warming bandwagon.  Then, it dawned on me.  Primarily, it’s because they’re getting half of the story.  If the general pulic is fed doom and gloom that the sky is falling, eventually everyone in the barnyard will be parading to see the king demanding that he stop the falling sky by whatever means necessary.

Where are the news stories, in print and on network TV…covering all the scientists who claim global warming is just hogwash?  The media simply ignores ’em.  As a consequence, only one side is spoon-fed to the general public.  According to the latest Gallup poll, Americans generally believe global warming is real and it’s all caused by mankind.  And why not?  That’s all they’ve heard and read about.

Over 70 scientists were speakers at the 2009 International Conference on Climate Change last week in New York.  You didn’t read or hear about it, did you?  And yet, one of the speakers was retired astronaut Harrison Schmitt, who walked on the moon during the Apollo 17 mission.  He said scientists are being intimidated if they disagree with the idea that humans are causing global warming.  He says he’s seen “too many colleagues lose grant funding when they haven’t gone along with the so-called political consensus that we’re in a human-caused global warming.”

Besides the scientists at the conference, more than 650 scientists worldwide have expressed skepticism, but their skepticism simply doesn’t make a good news story.  Doom and gloom sells.  And as we will all see down the road, it also generates money…lots of it…but not FOR you.  FROM YOU!

The former astronaut said the “global warming scare is being used as a political tool to increase government control over American lives, incomes and decision making.”  The President of the Czech Republic, Vaclav Klaus calls manmade global warming “a myth.”  He calls the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change a group with a “one-sided political agenda.”

Ah, but Senator John Kerry made the news over the weekend by warning that “deferring potentially costly actions to combat global warming because of the economic slump amounts to a suicide pact.”  However, Patrick Michaels, research professor of environmental sciences interviewed by NewsMax says “It’s amazing how many BIG-MOUTH global warming alarmists get media attention who were never trained as climatologists.”

As the late Paul Harvey used to say “…and now you knw the est of the story.”  Unfortunately, the general public DOESN’T know the rest of the story.  The mainstream media, politicians, and big-mouth global warming alarmists are seeing to that.

More On Victimhood

THURSDAY 9-11-08…Political correctness has run amok in England continuing to grow a “victim class”. More and more are jumping at a chance to claim “victim hood.” I’ve already told you about the senior citizens who –after thirty seven years–suddenly became offended by the road signs designed to slow motorists down when traveling through areas inhabited by seniors.

Then there was the lady in Atlanta who was “offended” by road signs reading “Men at Work” which caused officials in Atlanta to change all such signs to read “People at Work.”

Now comes word via the newspaper UK Telegraph that the term “Man on the Street” should no longer be used. A document put out by the Chichester District Council of West Sussex says the popular saying is based on the assumption that the world is male and makes the view or work of women invisible. It suggests that town hall officers use “general public” which is a positive and less offensive alternative.

And that’s not all. The guide also kills off the phrase “manning the switchboard” and suggests “staffing” or “running the switchboard” instead.

Not all officials are amused. The chairman of the council says “This kind of thing really gets my goat. It’s not as though anybody in their right mind would believe that “man on the street” referred solely to the male sex. It’s just stupid. I’ve never heard anything like it. I think political correctness is one of the most ghastly things about our society. It’s one of the most repulsive things ever to be invented.”

But another disagreed saying “We introduced this because as community leaders, we must be aware of what modern society requires of the public sector, and this includes the sensitivity of various individuals and current thinking in society.”

That, folks will open the door to even more “victims” coming forward to claim they’re “offended” by something. Being “offended” is the new fad for anyone craving attention.

Catastrophic Winter Coming?

FRIDAY 8-29-08…You’ve probably heard the commercials which end with the announcer saying “The war on global warming has just begun.” The latest issue of the Farmer’s Almanac is indicating the war on global warming is an effort in futility. In fact, the almanac’s winter forecast is even at odds with the national weather service. It’ll really be interesting to see how all this plays out.

The almanac is calling for one heck of a cold winter everywhere. The national weather service is calling for a much warmer winter than normal. But what’s really interesting in all this isn’t necessarily the opposing viewpoints, it’s the admission by the chief of the operations branch at the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center.

Chief Ed O’Lenic says it’s generally impossible to come up with accurate forecasts more than a week in advance. He says “It is possible to prepare a forecast with any lead time you like. Whether or not that forecast has any accuracy or usable skill is another question.”

That creates the obvious question: How is it then, that global warming alarmists (like Al Gore who is neither a scientist nor expert) can predict the planet is going to heat up to the point where the ocean will swallow up coast lines, and islands? If weather can’t be accurately predicted in excess of one week, why are people swallowing the global warming concept that predicts what’ll be happening five years, ten years, twenty years down the road?

Victor Manuel Velasco Herrera, researcher at the Institute of Geophysics in Mexico says that in about ten years, the Earth will enter a “little ice age” which will last from sixty to eighty years, caused by the decrease in solar activity. Interestingly, he points out our star (the Sun) has never been seen as a cooling agent…only a warming agent…but it has two roles….warming AND cooling. Why isn’t anyone believing HIM when he predicts something ten years down the road, yet they’re awfully quick to believe Al Gore?

The Farmer’s Almanac is basing its prediction of a catastrophic winter on –among other things–solar activity, or lack of it. It boasts eighty five percent accuracy. Can NOAA or National Weather Service say the same?

New Victim Class

THURSDAY 8-28-08…I actually get quite a kick outta’ people who claim to be “offended” by something or other. It seems to work quite well though as various entities fall all over themselves caving in to such people. I’ve already told you about the gal in Georgia who was offended by roadwork signs reading “Men at Work”.

Officials in Atlanta fell all over themselves hurriedly changing the signs, and buying new ones reading “People at Work.” The “offendee”…puffed up with her success says she’s taking it statewide.

Closer to home, a free movie shown on Saturday night’s in a Sacramento County Park was supposed to be the Oscar-winning film “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” The 1961 classic starred Audrey Hepburn. Some in the Asian community were offended saying Mickey Rooney’s character perpetuates negative Asian stereotypes. The showing of that film was cancelled and substituted by Ratatouille. It’s an animated film featuring rats in the kitchen of a French restaurant.

(The substitution was made quickly without giving animal rights wackos a chance to become offended.)

It’s not something that’s unique in the USA. In Britain, some senior citizens are offended about signs warning motorists of elderly pedestrians. The signs have been used for the past 27 years, but now that being “offended” has become in vogue, there are demands the signs be changed or removed. The signs, depicting a hunched figure hobbling on a walking cane was the winning entry in a children’s competition in 1981.

Today, its considered condescending and out of date. No word on what will replace the signs. Probably a sign depicting an old lady with blue hair, holding a bloody Mary, complete with olive and celery stick, sitting at a slot machine.

BBQ Earth: easy money for scam artists

THURSDAY 4-10-08….It used to be surprising to me that so many people have allowed themselves to be sucked in to the global warming scam. A scam that tells people CO2 is a toxic gas that’s causing the Earth to heat up, and yet every human being alive on this Earth exhales CO2 with every breath they take.

Scientists who laugh at the scam, and try to talk sense, get demonized by the press, and by other scientists who stand to gain money…..lots of money….for continued research. I’ve heard, and read some scientists who say “just follow the money trail, and you’ll understand that it’s really not about global warming, because the globe is not warming. It’s about money. Billions and billions and billions of dollars.

Let me give you just two examples here: A news item in the Sacramento BEE dated Sunday March 30 was all about the entrepreneur who wants to “fertilize the ocean with iron as a tool to slow global warming. The news item was on the front page. One paragraph states, “It is an elegant theory that researchers have explored for twenty years. Along the way, businesses have latched onto that theory hoping to make millions or even billions of dollars by selling carbon credits.

Over the weekend, the Reuters news service carried a story dateline Bangkok which reads “Developing countries and environmental groups accused the World Bank of trying to seize control of the billions of dollars of aid that will be used to tackle climate change in the next four decades. Many countries and civil society have expressed outrage at the World Bank’s attempted hijacking of real efforts to fund climate change efforts.

But it’s the news items you don’t see that allow the global warming scam to continue unabated. For example, from the BBC: “Global temperatures will drop slightly this year as a result of the cooling effect of the La Nina current in the Pacific UN meteorologists said. This has prompted some to question the global warming theory.”

Too bad the item wasn’t carried in this country’s mainstream press so that more people would begin to question.
